HAAKAA has become known for its compact manual pump, which is ideal in the first weeks after childbirth. Instead of using a nursing pad, the breast pump was created. The breast pump is placed around the breast where no one drinks from and collects the leaking milk in the first weeks. After birth, the breasts still have to get used to the baby's drinking - supply and demand still have to be matched. Instead of the leaking milk disappearing, this gold is collected!
A Haakaa Breast Pump is a pump that is attached to the breast by vacuum. You do this by squeezing the pump and hanging it on the breast where you are not drinking. This in combination with your let-down reflex is often sufficient. However, if this is not the case, a small squeeze of the flexible pump may be enough to get the milk flowing/dripping. And that's it, the rest will take care of itself. So you don't have to do anything else.
A milk collector, also known as a breast milk collector, is the innovative design of HAAKAA and for which they have become famous. This is actually what the HAAKAA breast pump does. This aid is used for breastfeeding mothers who do not want their golden breast milk to go to waste. The milk collector is used instead of a nursing pad. This way, all the golden breast milk is preserved for the baby.
The breast milk collector is attached to the breast where the baby is not drinking. This will leak, especially in the beginning, because of the natural let-down reflex. Instead of it being absorbed into a cloth, you are already filling a first bag with breast milk for later!
This is actually very easy! You can clean the Haakaa Breast Pump by boiling it in water for 3 to 5 minutes. Bleaching agents and sterilizing tablets should NOT be used, this is unsafe and super bad for your Haakaa Breast Pump. In addition, Haakaa has developed its own cleaning set that can be used for all Haakaa products :)
This is a common question, and in the past we would have said - nursing pads! However, although these can sometimes be useful, we now say - breast milk collector! Why? It is more than a shame to throw away your breast milk, especially the milk from the first week! This can come in handy later :) Leaking breasts during feeding can be solved by a breast milk collector or a ladybug drip tray from Haakaa.
