What types of makeup are there for the face?
When you think of face makeup, you probably think of foundation and concealer, but there is so much more! Below we have listed all products specifically for the face.
- Primer - The perfect base that ensures your makeup stays in place all day long!
- Foundation - Check out all the foundations, in all shapes, sizes, colors, coverages - and pick your fave!
- Concealer - Get rid of those blemishes! Concealers are the way to go. And ideal to highlight your face.
- Contour - This allows you to emphasize certain parts of your face, such as your cheekbones or jawline.
- Highlighter - This allows you to add shine as a finishing touch after contouring, for a fun 'glow' or summer look.
- Blush - A nice color on the cheeks can't hurt, for a healthy look.
- Powder - Don't forget to powder your face to prevent 'shine' and oily skin. This also helps the make-up to stay in place better.
- Make-up spray - Last, but not least: a make-up spray. Apply this last in your make-up routine for a long-lasting look, so that your make-up stays on your face all day long.
What types of foundations are there?
Finding a good foundation in the right color with the right coverage is hard enough, and then there is so much choice, that certainly doesn't make it any easier. For example, you have foundation in these different variants:

Which foundation suits my skin?
Foundation is the base of your make-up look. It evens out the skin and makes the skin look healthy and radiant. There are many different foundations in all kinds of sizes, substances, colors and coverages. There are a number of things you can look for when finding the right foundation for your skin: the color shade, your skin condition and the coverage.
Skin condition - First, you determine your skin type. Is your skin oily or dry? This determines which type of foundation suits your skin. We have listed a number of factors and two examples of foundations:
Color Shade - One of the most important factors in finding the right foundation is the color. You don't want your neck or jawline to be a different color than your face. First of all, there are 3 types of shades:
- Warm - your skin has a pink undertone
- Cool - your skin has a yellow undertone
- Neutral - then you are right in between
With a neutral skin, you don't have to pay much attention to the undertone, because you can have both undertones. A tip in between: when you test a foundation, it is best to do this on your neck or jawline, not on your hand. If you know what your undertone is, you can look at how light/dark your skin is, pay close attention to the difference between your neck and the foundation. Is your perfect color not among them? Then you can also mix different foundation colors with each other!
Many foundations already indicate with the name what color you can expect. For example,L'Oréal Paris True Match Foundation has an ideal system. L'Oréal has put letters in the foundation name: Warm (D/W), Cool (R/C) and Neutral (N). In addition, the colors go from light (1) to dark (10). Then N1 is for example a neutral, light color. Handy!
Coverage - There is also a difference in the coverage of the foundation. Do you suffer a lot from impurities? Then it is best to use a full coverage foundation. Do you have a fairly even skin? Then you can go for a transparent or semi-covering foundation for a natural effect.
Which blush suits my skin tone?
A blush gives you a beautiful, healthy glow and accentuates your cheekbones. This color suits your skin tone best:
Blush for light skin - For light skin, it is best to choose a light blush with light pigmentation, so that the blush is not too strong and intense.
- Cool undertone - It is best to use a light pink color
- Warm undertone - It is best to use a peach color
Blush for medium skin tone - Do you have medium skin tone? Then you can wear any color, lucky girl! The best colors to choose are peach or coral blush. These colors will accentuate your cheekbones beautifully.
Blush for dark skin - For dark skin, it is best to choose a dark blush with good pigmentation. A red or fuchsia pink blush are perfect colors for your skin. A blush with a warm undertone looks amazing!
What types of primers are there?
You apply a primer before you start with your make-up, it is a good base. You take a little on your hand and then spread it over your entire face. The primer keeps your make-up in place all day long so that it does not fade halfway through the day, ideal! A primer can also provide a matte effect or a beautiful glow. What is the difference between a tonic and a lotion?
If you wear make-up on your face, it is important to remove your face make-up properly. Both a tonic and lotion are intended to remove the last traces of your make-up, but what is the difference between them? A tonic often contains alcohol and is therefore less suitable for dry and/or sensitive skin. A lotion almost never contains alcohol and is therefore suitable for every skin, including sensitive skin.
How to apply face makeup?
You apply face makeup with a brush or a beauty sponge. Sometimes you can also apply makeup to your face with your fingers, a little concealer under your eyes can be done with your fingers. But in general, the result on your face is more beautiful if you use the righttoolsfor face makeup
In what order do I apply face makeup?
For the best results, it is important to apply your makeup in the right order. We have described it step by step:
- Day cream - start with a good day cream for good hydration, all day long!
- Primer - this will make your makeup last all day.
- Concealer - Dab onto facial blemishes and let it absorb for a moment. Then blend into skin.
- Foundation – time to even out your skin!
- Contour - After foundation, you can start contouring. You can use a lighter shade (often a concealer) to 'highlight' and a darker powder or stick to accentuate your cheekbones and jawline. Blend everything well into the skin.
- Blush - This gives a healthy glow to the face.
- Powder your face with a light or transparent powder. This mattifies oily skin and keeps the make-up in place. You can choose to use the blush or highlighter under or over the powder.
- Highlighter - or bronzer - can give your face a little extra 'glow' for a fun, summery effect!
- Make-up spray - not a must, but handy if you have to go out all day! This will keep your make-up in place.

Is face makeup bad for your skin?
This depends on how you take care of your face, it all depends on good skincare. Always clean your face thoroughly, especially before going to bed and before applying your make-up. After cleansing your face, use a hydrating face cream to keep your skin in good condition. In short: face make-up is not harmful if you cleanse your face and use a day cream before applying it.
