Your hero so that your makeup stays in place all day:Primer! We've all been there: your make-up looks super flawless, but not for long. By using a primer you prevent your make-up from becoming greasy, smudging or settling into pores and fine lines. There are different types of facial primers that you use before applying your makeup. There are primers specifically for oily skin, but also primers for dry skin or sensitive skin. Your makeup was already beautiful, now it stays in place!

Why do you use a primer?

You use a primer to make your makeup last longer. By applying a primer before you start with your makeup, your makeup will last longer and the end result will be more even. There are different types of primers: for your eyes, lips, eyelashes and face. In addition, a primer also has a caring function and keeps the skin healthy.

How do I ensure that my makeup stays in place all day?

Easy, peasy! Do you want your makeup to last longer? Then use a primer before applying makeup and lock in your makeup with a face powder orsettingspray!

What is the difference between a primer and a setting spray?

The purpose of a setting spray and a primer is the same: they extend the life of your makeup and ensure that your makeup lasts longer. The method of application is different, you apply a primer before you start with your makeup and you apply a fixing spray after you have applied your makeup. But to make it more difficult, some people also choose to apply the setting spray as a primer for makeup. Is this wrong then? No. By applying the setting spray before you start with your makeup, you also prime your skin and your makeup will last longer. Because a setting spray is liquid, it also helps to distribute your makeup more evenly. Another difference is the structure between a primer and a setting spray: a primer often has a cream-like or gel-like structure while a setting spray is a liquid mist.

Do I choose a primer or a setting spray?

Actually this is a bit of a trial and error. Some people use a primer first, then apply their makeup and finish with a setting spray. Others only use a primer and others only use a setting spray or use their setting spray as a primer and as a fixing spray.

Which facial primer is best to use?

There are different types of facial primers, which primer is best for you depends on your skin type. For example, if you have oily skin, a common problem is that your makeup will look greasy during the day. This problem is easily solved with a primer for oily skin that absorbs excess sebum. Looking for a primer for dry skin or combination skin? Below we have highlighted various primers and explain which facial primer suits your skin type best!

      Primer for oily skin

If you have oily skin, it is important to choose a primer that is suitable for oily skin! Your skin then produces more sebum and oil, making it look greasy. This can cause your makeup to stay in place, move or smudge less well.

Problem: Your skin looks greasy, makeup smudges and doesn't stay in place.

Solution: A primer that absorbs excess sebum with a matte finish.

      Primer for dry skin

If you have dry skin, it is sometimes difficult to apply your makeup, but especially how it stays in place. The make-up often quickly absorbs into the skin because your skin longs for hydration, which results in lines and cracky make-up.

Problem: Your skin looks dry and grainy, your makeup is absorbed too quickly.

Solution: A primer that hydrates and nourishes the skin. For a natural glow and make-up that stays nice and even all day long.

      Primer for combination skin

In case of combination skin, it is important that the skin is balanced. This way you prevent your skin from looking greasy or too dry.

Problem:It is often difficult to choose the right make-up products or primers because your skin is often out of balance. Your skin either looks oily or dry.

Solution:A primer that brings your skin back into balance.

These primers are suitable for you:

      Primer for sensitive skin

If you have sensitive skin, your skin may look red and feel painful. In addition, you are probably very careful when using products because your skin can react quickly to them.

Problem:Your skin is red, sensitive or you suffer from acne. Your skin does not look even and is easily irritated.

Solution:A primer that does not irritate sensitive skin and does not aggravate acne complaints. The primer soothes the skin and reduces red tones, making spots or pimples less visible.

Primer suitable for every skin type

Some people are lucky enough to have 'easy' skin. Regardless of their skincare routine, their skin is always in balance. You may also be looking for a primer that is always good. We have highlighted them here.

Problem: Lucky you, no problems over here!

Solution: A nice primer that ensures that your makeup stays in place all day long!

These primers are suitable for you:

      Primer to reduce pores

Some people have large pores, which makes the skin look less even. Because the pores are open, dirt can enter the pores more quickly, causing them to become clogged and causing pimples to develop more quickly. Of course we want to prevent that!

Problem: Large pores that are very visible, causing makeup to quickly penetrate the skin.

Solution: A primer that reduces pores for even skin.

Is there also a primer for sensitive skin?

If you suffer from sensitive skin, it is sometimes exciting to apply a primer because you do not know how your skin will react to it. Nevertheless, a primer is recommended for sensitive skin! (Provided you choose the right one of course). If you have sensitive skin, a common problem is blemishes and redness. You can even out these red spots and imperfections with a primer, but at the same time a primer often also has a calming effect. For sensitive skin, the primer fromAnnabelle Minerals, thePretty Neutral Clay Primer, is an absolute must-have! Another great primer that will always do the trick is theMAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime Matte Fix+ Primer.

How do you use a primer?

Depending on the type of primer, the step-by-step plan is often the same:

Step 1: Cleanse and moisturize your skin. Before you apply a primer (whether on your face, eyes or lips) it is important to always start from 0.

Step 2: Apply a small amount of the primer to your skin or eyelids. You can apply the primer with your (clean) fingertips or with a make-up sponge.

Step 3: Let the primer work in for a while and you're ready for the next step: Make-up !
