Vegan hair care is becoming more and more common these days, and we think that's absolutely fantastic! Vegan hair care helps you make the world a little more beautiful. The great thing is that it is also becoming more common, and therefore more affordable. Instead of an exception, it is becoming the norm, and that makes us happy!

      When are hair products vegan?

The real vegan ladies know when a hair product is vegan but a very large group does not. However, there is an ever-growing group that is becoming more conscious in life. Because what exactly is vegan? Most popular and well-known hair products that are easy to find in the supermarket are not vegan. Vegan hair products are shampoos, conditioners and styling products that do not contain any ingredients that come from animals and are also not tested on animals.

      When is a product vegan?

Vegan hair products have been popular with our customers for a long time. People are becoming more aware of the suffering that animals are subjected to when testing products. Fortunately, more and more brands are realizing this and are finding other testing methods for their products.

A few features that make a product vegan:

      • Panthenol, amino acids and vitamin B, for example, are substances that can be of animal origin.
      • Keratin, a popular ingredient in many hair treatments, is an animal protein found in skin, beak, feathers, hooves, claws and baleen.
      • Vegan hair products are not tested on animals.

Which ingredients are of animal-friendly origin?

      • Beeswax (cera alba)/ honey (mel)
      • Animal glycerin
      • Wool grease (lanol/lanolin/lanolate)
      • Carmine/ CI75470
      • Lactic acid
      • Keratin
      • Collagen
      • Elastin
      • Side
      • Glycerin
      • Vitamins

Fortunately, many brands make it a bit easier for us by stating on their label whether their product is 100% vegan. These brands often consciously choose to be vegan and want to clearly communicate this to the outside world. Brands put this on their product themselves or can be recognized by the well-known vegan logo.

      Is vegan also cruelty free?

This is a question we get asked regularly. Opinions differ on this, especially from the perspective of the brands themselves. Care products that are cruelty-free (i.e. not tested on animals) do not have to be vegan. Cosmetics can be cruelty-free, but still not vegan because they use animal substances in their products. Vegan hair products do not contain any animal ingredients and are also not tested on animals.

      Which hair products are vegan?

Attitude Living is a vegan and cruelty free brand that is also completely free of harmful substances. They are officially PETA CERTIFIED. In addition, they have everything tested independently and they also work with dermatologists. This brand has become a family brand that goes for 100% safe products. It once started as a brand that developed safe cleaning products that babies and little ones do not suffer from has become a complete family brand with only safe products for every household.

The products of L'OREAL SOURCE are 80 to 100% natural and also vegan. All products contain the natural formula and are made on a natural basis. They contain almost only natural ingredients, and then you would think that is not possible, but L'Oréal source is transparent so everything can be read on the packaging. That packaging also makes the line sustainable. L'Oréal has ensured that you get the maximum amount of the product with the minimum amount of plastic of the packaging. The packaging is also made in such a way that you can easily take it with you. And the products do not contain sulphates, parabens, silicones and synthetic fragrances and colorants. Very good for the environment!

What should not be in a Vegan hair product?

Some shampoos contain egg and honey for shine to the hair. Also gelatin, beeswax, wool fat (lanolin), carmine, shellac, milk, hyaluronic acid, keratin (found in nails and bones), collagen, stearic acid, placenta, snail slime and silk. These are all animal products that can be found in hair products.

      Is cruelty free also vegan?

If a shampoo is not tested on animals, that is already a big plus. But not tested on animals, cruelty free, does not automatically mean vegan. Due to the increasing demand for vegan cosmetics, there is also more demand for clarity. Because how do you know which shampoo is vegan?

Although the logo of animal-friendly looks cute, there can still be animal ingredients in 'animal-friendly' hair products. Sometimes these are hidden under E-numbers that we do not immediately recognize. Are you looking for products that have not been tested on animals? Then you know for sure that you are safe with vegan products anyway.

What animal ingredients can be found in hair products?

Many hair products use animal ingredients. For example, Keratin is a very popular ingredient that is mainly used in products for damaged hair. Keratin is an important building block of your hair that makes it strong and resilient. But Keratin is an animal protein that is found in, among other things, the skin, beak, hooves and claws of animals and is therefore not vegan.

Are there also hair vitamins that are vegan?
